Doing it, one step at a time
Find the Xtream option in your player
IPTV Smarters calls it "Login with Xtream Codes API". TiViMate calls it "Xtream Codes login". Most others shorten it to Xtream or simply API. Where a player offers both this and an M3U field, always take this one, because it brings the guide and the on-demand library with it.
Enter the server URL
It wants the whole address: http:// at the front, the port on the end, in the shape http://example.com:8080. Nothing follows the port, neither a slash nor a path. More failed logins trace back to this one field than to everything else put together.
Enter the username and password
Copy both straight from the message and mind the capitals, because they are case sensitive. The profile name above them is cosmetic and affects nothing, so call it whatever helps you tell two accounts apart.
Understand what the port is doing
The number after the colon tells the app which door on the server to knock at. Get it wrong and the login fails with a message about credentials, which sends people off checking their password for twenty minutes. When a login fails, check the port before anything else.
Save the three values somewhere safe
Put them in a password manager or a note you keep, not only in the WhatsApp thread. Chats get cleared and phones get replaced, and re-issuing credentials means a message to support and a wait. Adding a second television is a one-minute job if you have them to hand.
Test the login before the weekend, not during it
Sign in on a phone or in the browser player the day before a fixture you care about. A login problem takes minutes to resolve with support and a great deal longer to resolve calmly while a match is starting. This is the single most useful habit on this page.
When it goes wrong, and why
The app only asks for an M3U URL
A few older players understand playlists and nothing else. Use the M3U link from the same activation message, which carries the identical account in a different wrapper. The M3U guide explains what to do with it and what you give up.
It works on one device and refuses on another
Usually the stream limit on your plan rather than a bad login. A one-screen plan allows a single stream at a time however many devices are signed in, which is exactly the wall households hit on a Saturday. The multi-screen plans exist for that.
It worked for months and now says the credentials are invalid
The likeliest explanation is the subscription reaching its end date, which produces exactly that message in most players. Check the date before troubleshooting anything technical. Renewing restores the same credentials rather than issuing new ones.
Two devices fight over the same stream
On a one-screen plan the second device to connect will knock the first off, or be refused, depending on the player. That is the plan limit rather than a fault, and on a Saturday it is the commonest surprise in the whole service. The multi-screen tiers exist for it.
The login stops working in the middle of a weekend
Three explanations cover almost every case. The term ended, which produces a credentials error in most players and is settled by a renewal. Somebody else in the house connected and hit the stream limit, which on a one-screen plan knocks the first device off. Or the server address changed, which support announces but people miss in a busy chat. Check them in that order; the first two account for the overwhelming majority.

Questions about Xtream Codes login
Is Xtream Codes legal?
It is a format for handing an app three pieces of information, and perfectly ordinary software in every app store uses it. Nothing about the format is restricted anywhere. The question with legal weight is whether the service behind the login has the rights to what it sends you.
Why not just give me one link?
Because a single link cannot reliably carry the schedule data, and for sport the guide is the part you most need. Three fields is marginally more typing once and considerably less trouble every weekend after that.
Can I change my password?
Ask support and they will reissue the account. Every device then has to be signed in again, so it is worth doing only if you believe the details have been shared beyond the household, which does happen when somebody forwards a link to a friend.
Why do some apps call it something else?
Because the name comes from a panel product rather than a standard, so developers label the same three fields differently: Xtream, Xtream Codes API, or just API. If a login screen asks for a server, a username and a password, that is this, whatever it is called.
Can I see how many streams I am using?
Not from inside the player, no. If you suspect somebody else in the house is holding the stream, ask support: they can see active connections on the account and will tell you. It is a common question on match days and an easy one to answer.
Is my login safe to keep in a note on my phone?
Reasonably, provided the note is not shared and the phone is locked. The bigger risk in practice is not theft but generosity: people forward their credentials to a friend or a family member, that person forwards them again, and the stream limit is suddenly being consumed by strangers on a Saturday afternoon. If you suspect that has happened, ask support to reissue the account. Every device then needs signing in again, which is a nuisance, but it is a smaller nuisance than discovering at kick-off that somebody you have never met is using the screen you paid for. Support can also tell you how many connections are live on the account at any moment, which usually settles the question in a single message and saves you reissuing anything at all. It is worth asking before you assume the service is at fault, because on a busy Saturday a shared login looks exactly like an overloaded server from where you are sitting.
